ורגז מלכא וסליק על עלית תרעא ובכא וכדין אמר במיזליה ברי אבשלום ברי ברי אבשלום לוי דמתית אנא חלופך ואת קים יומא דין אבשלום ברי ברי:
bry bry abshlwm dyn ywma qym wath khlwpk ana dmthyth lwy abshlwm bry bry abshlwm bry bmyzlyh amr wkdyn wbka threa elyth el wslyq mlka wrgz
Joab was told, “Behold, the king weeps and mourns for Absalom.”

ואתחואה ליואב הא מלכא בכי ומתאבל על אבשלום:
abshlwm el wmthabl bky mlka ha lywab wathkhwah
The victory that day was turned into mourning among all the people, for the people heard it said that day, “The king grieves for his son.”

והות תשועתא ביומא ההוא לאבלא לכל עמא ארי שמע עמא ביומא ההוא למימר אתנסיס מלכא על בריה:
bryh el mlka athnsys lmymr hhwa bywma ema shme ary ema lkl labla hhwa bywma thshwetha whwth
The people sneaked into the city that day, as people who are ashamed steal away when they flee in battle.

ומתגנבין עמא ביומא ההוא למיעל לקרתא כמא דמתגנבין עמא דמתכלמין במפכהון בקרבא:
bqrba bmpkhwn dmthklmyn ema dmthgnbyn kma lqrtha lmyel hhwa bywma ema wmthgnbyn
The king covered his face, and the king cried with a loud voice, “My son Absalom, Absalom, my son, my son!”

ומלכא כריך ית אפוהי וצוח מלכא בקל רב ברי אבשלום אבשלום ברי ברי:
bry bry abshlwm abshlwm bry rb bql mlka wtswkh apwhy yth kryk wmlka
Joab came into the house to the king, and said, “Today you have shamed the faces of all your servants who today have saved your life, and the lives of your sons and of your daughters, and the lives of your wives, and the lives of your concubines;

ואתא יואב לות מלכא לביתא ואמר אבהיתתא יומא דין ית אפי כל עבדיך דשיזיבו ית נפשך יומא דין וית נפש בנך ובנתך ונפש נשך ונפש לחינתך:
lkhynthk wnpsh nshk wnpsh wbnthk bnk npsh wyth dyn ywma npshk yth dshyzybw ebdyk kl apy yth dyn ywma abhyththa wamr lbytha mlka lwth ywab watha
in that you love those who hate you and hate those who love you. For you have declared today that princes and servants are nothing to you. For today I perceive that if Absalom had lived and we had all died today, then it would have pleased you well.

למרחם ית סנאיך ולמסני ית רחמיך ארי חויתא יומא דין ארי לית לך רברבין ועבדין ארי אנא ידענא יומא דין ארי אלו אבשלום קים וכולנא יומא דין מתקטלין ארי בכן כשר בעינך:
beynk kshr bkn ary mthqTlyn dyn ywma wkwlna qym abshlwm alw ary dyn ywma ydena ana ary webdyn rbrbyn lk lyth ary dyn ywma khwytha ary rkhmyk yth wlmsny snayk yth lmrkhm
Now therefore arise, go out and speak to comfort your servants; for I swear by Yahweh, if you don’t go out, not a man will stay with you this night. That would be worse to you than all the evil that has happened to you from your youth until now.”

וכען קום פוק ומליל על לבא דעבדך ארי במימרא דיי קימית ארי ליתך נפיק אם יבית גבר עמך בליליא ותהי בישא לך דא מכל בישתא דאתת עלך מזעורך עד כען:
ken ed mzewrk elk dathth byshtha mkl da lk bysha wthhy blylya emk gbr ybyth am npyq lythk ary qymyth dyy bmymra ary debdk lba el wmlyl pwq qwm wken
Then the king arose and sat in the gate. The people were all told, “Behold, the king is sitting in the gate.” All the people came before the king. Now Israel had fled every man to his tent.

וקם מלכא ויתיב בתרעא ולכל עמא חויאו למימר הא מלכא יתיב בתרעא ואתא כל עמא לקדם מלכא וישראל אפיך גבר לקרווהי:
lqrwwhy gbr apyk wyshral mlka lqdm ema kl watha bthrea ythyb mlka ha lmymr khwyaw ema wlkl bthrea wythyb mlka wqm
All the people were at strife throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, “The king delivered us out of the hand of our enemies, and he saved us out of the hand of the Philistines; and now he has fled out of the land from Absalom.

והוו כל עמא מתוכחין בכל שבטיא דישראל למימר מלכא שיזבנא מיד בעיל דבבנא והוא פרקנא מידא דפלשתאי וכען ערק מן ארעא מלות אבשלום:
abshlwm mlwth area mn erq wken dplshthay myda prqna whwa dbbna beyl myd shyzbna mlka lmymr dyshral shbTya bkl mthwkkhyn ema kl whww
Absalom, whom we anointed over us, is dead in battle. Now therefore why don’t you speak a word of bringing the king back?”

ואבשלום דמשחנא עלנא מית בקרבא וכען למה אתון שתקין לאתבא ית מלכא:
mlka yth lathba shthqyn athwn lmh wken bqrba myth elna dmshkhna wabshlwm
King David sent to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, saying, “Speak to the elders of Judah, saying, ‘Why are you the last to bring the king back to his house, since the speech of all Israel has come to the king, to return him to his house?

ומלכא דוד שלח לצדוק ולאביתר כהניא למימר מלילו לסבי יהודה למימר למא תהון בתראין לאתבא ית מלכא לביתיה ופתגם כל ישראל אתא לות מלכא לביתיה:
lbythyh mlka lwth atha yshral kl wpthgm lbythyh mlka yth lathba bthrayn thhwn lma lmymr yhwdh lsby mlylw lmymr khnya wlabythr ltsdwq shlkh dwd wmlka
You are my brothers. You are my bone and my flesh. Why then are you the last to bring back the king?’

אחי אתון קריבי ובסרי אתון ולמא תהון בתראין לאתבא ית מלכא:
mlka yth lathba bthrayn thhwn wlma athwn wbsry qryby athwn akhy
Say to Amasa, ‘Aren’t you my bone and my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if you aren’t captain of the army before me continually instead of Joab.’”

ולעמשא תימרון הלא קריבי ובסרי את כדין יעביד לי יי וכדין יוסיף אם לא רב חילא תהי קדמי כל יומיא חלף יואב:
ywab khlp ywmya kl qdmy thhy khyla rb la am ywsyp wkdyn yy ly yebyd kdyn ath wbsry qryby hla thymrwn wlemsha
He bowed the heart of all the men of Judah, even as one man, so that they sent to the king, saying, “Return, you and all your servants.”

ואתפני לבא דכל אנש יהודה כגברא חד ושלחו למלכא תוב את וכל עבדיך:
ebdyk wkl ath thwb lmlka wshlkhw khd kgbra yhwdh ansh dkl lba wathpny
So the king returned, and came to the Jordan. Judah came to Gilgal, to go to meet the king, to bring the king over the Jordan.

ותב מלכא ואתא עד ירדנא ודבית יהודה אתו לגלגלא למיזל לקדמות מלכא לאעברא ית מלכא ית ירדנא:
yrdna yth mlka yth laebra mlka lqdmwth lmyzl lglgla athw yhwdh wdbyth yrdna ed watha mlka wthb
Shimei the son of Gera, the Benjamite, who was of Bahurim, hurried and came down with the men of Judah to meet King David.

ואוחי שמעי בר גרא בר שבט בנימן די מעלמת ונחת עם אנש יהודה לקדמות מלכא דוד:
dwd mlka lqdmwth yhwdh ansh em wnkhth melmth dy bnymn shbT br gra br shmey wawkhy
There were a thousand men of Benjamin with him, and Ziba the servant of Saul’s house, and his fifteen sons and his twenty servants with him; and they went through the Jordan in the presence of the king.

ואלף גברא עמיה משבטא דבנימין וציבא עולימא דבית שאול וחמשת עסר בנוהי ועשרין עבדוהי עמיה וגזו ירדנא קדם מלכא:
mlka qdm yrdna wgzw emyh ebdwhy weshryn bnwhy esr wkhmshth shawl dbyth ewlyma wtsyba dbnymyn mshbTa emyh gbra walp
A ferry boat went to bring over the king’s household, and to do what he thought good. Shimei the son of Gera fell down before the king when he had come over the Jordan.

ועברו מגזתא לאעברא ית בית מלכא ולמעבד דתקין בעינוהי ושמעי בר גרא נפל קדם מלכא במעבריה בירדנא:
byrdna bmebryh mlka qdm npl gra br wshmey beynwhy dthqyn wlmebd mlka byth yth laebra mgztha webrw
He said to the king, “Don’t let my lord impute iniquity to me, or remember that which your servant did perversely the day that my lord the king went out of Jerusalem, that the king should take it to his heart.

ואמר למלכא לא יחשוב עלי דלי רבוני חובא ולא תדכר ית די סרח עבדך ביומא די גלא רבוני מלכא מירושלם לשואה מלכא על לביה:
lbyh el mlka lshwah myrwshlm mlka rbwny gla dy bywma ebdk srkh dy yth thdkr wla khwba rbwny dly ely ykhshwb la lmlka wamr
For your servant knows that I have sinned. Therefore behold, I have come today as the first of all the house of Joseph to go down to meet my lord the king.”

ארי ידע עבדך ארי אנא חבית והא אתית יומא דין קדמאי לכל בית יוסף למחת לקדמות רבוני מלכא:
mlka rbwny lqdmwth lmkhth ywsp byth lkl qdmay dyn ywma athyth wha khbyth ana ary ebdk yde ary
But Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered, “Shouldn’t Shimei be put to death for this, because he cursed Yahweh’s anointed?”

ואתיב אבישי בר צרויה ואמר החלף דא לא יתקטל שמעי ארי לט ית משיחא דיי:
dyy mshykha yth lT ary shmey ythqTl la da hkhlp wamr tsrwyh br abyshy wathyb
David said, “What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah, that you should be adversaries to me today? Shall any man be put to death today in Israel? For don’t I know that I am king over Israel today?”

ואמר דוד מה לי ולכון בני צרויה ארי תהוון לי יומא דין לסטן יומא דין יתקטיל גברא בישראל ארי הלא ידענא ארי יומא דין אנא מלכא על ישראל:
yshral el mlka ana dyn ywma ary ydena hla ary byshral gbra ythqTyl dyn ywma lsTn dyn ywma ly thhwwn ary tsrwyh bny wlkwn ly mh dwd wamr
The king said to Shimei, “You will not die.” The king swore to him.

ואמר מלכא לשמעי לא תמות וקים ליה מלכא:
mlka lyh wqym thmwth la lshmey mlka wamr
Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king; and he had neither groomed his feet, nor trimmed his beard, nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day he came home in peace.

ומפיבשת בר שאול נחת לקדמות מלכא ולא שטף רגלוהי ולא ספר ספמיה וית לבושוהי לא חור למן יומא די גלא מלכא עד יומא דאתא בשלם:
bshlm datha ywma ed mlka gla dy ywma lmn khwr la lbwshwhy wyth spmyh spr wla rglwhy shTp wla mlka lqdmwth nkhth shawl br wmpybshth
When he had come to Jerusalem to meet the king, the king said to him, “Why didn’t you go with me, Mephibosheth?”

והוה כד אתא לירושלם לקדמות מלכא ואמר ליה מלכא למא לא אזלתא עמי מפיבשת:
mpybshth emy azltha la lma mlka lyh wamr mlka lqdmwth lyrwshlm atha kd whwh
He answered, “My lord, O king, my servant deceived me. For your servant said, ‘I will saddle a donkey for myself, that I may ride on it and go with the king,’ because your servant is lame.

ואמר רבוני מלכא עבדי שקר כי ארי אמר עבדך אחשוק לי חמרא וארכוב עלה ואיהך עם מלכא ארי חגיר עבדך:
ebdk khgyr ary mlka em wayhk elh warkwb khmra ly akhshwq ebdk amr ary ky shqr ebdy mlka rbwny wamr
He has slandered your servant to my lord the king, but my lord the king is as an angel of God. Therefore do what is good in your eyes.

ואמר על עבדך מילין דלא כשרן קדם רבוני מלכא ורבוני מלכא חכים כמלאכא דיי ועביד דתקין בעינך:
beynk dthqyn webyd dyy kmlaka khkym mlka wrbwny mlka rbwny qdm kshrn dla mylyn ebdk el wamr
For all my father’s house were but dead men before my lord the king; yet you set your servant among those who ate at your own table. What right therefore have I yet that I should appeal any more to the king?”

ארי לא הוה כל בית אבא אלהין גברי חיבי קטול לרבוני מלכא ושויתא ית עבדך באכלי פתורך ומה אית לי עוד זכו ולמקבל עוד קדם מלכא:
mlka qdm ewd wlmqbl zkw ewd ly ayth wmh pthwrk bakly ebdk yth wshwytha mlka lrbwny qTwl khyby gbry alhyn aba byth kl hwh la ary
The king said to him, “Why do you speak any more of your matters? I say, you and Ziba divide the land.”
30
ואמר ליה מלכא למא תמליל עוד פתגמך אמרית את וציבא תפלגון ית אחסנתא:
akhsntha yth thplgwn wtsyba ath amryth pthgmk ewd thmlyl lma mlka lyh wamr
Mephibosheth said to the king, “Yes, let him take all, because my lord the king has come in peace to his own house.”

ואמר מפיבשת למלכא אף ית כולא יסב בתר דאתא רבוני מלכא בשלמא לביתיה:
lbythyh bshlma mlka rbwny datha bthr ysb kwla yth ap lmlka mpybshth wamr
Barzillai the Gileadite came down from Rogelim; and he went over the Jordan with the king to conduct him over the Jordan.

וברזלי גלעדאה נחת מרוגלים ועבר ית מלכא ית ירדנא לאלויותיה ית ירדנא:
yrdna yth lalwywthyh yrdna yth mlka yth webr mrwglym nkhth gledah wbrzly
Now Barzillai was a very aged man, even eighty years old. He had provided the king with sustenance while he stayed at Mahanaim, for he was a very great man.

וברזלי סיב לחדא בר תמנן שנין והוא סובר ית מלכא במיתביה במחנים ארי גבר רב הוא לחדא:
lkhda hwa rb gbr ary bmkhnym bmythbyh mlka yth swbr whwa shnyn thmnn br lkhda syb wbrzly
The king said to Barzillai, “Come over with me, and I will sustain you with me in Jerusalem.”

ואמר מלכא לברזלי את עבר עמי ואסובר יתך עמי בירושלם:
byrwshlm emy ythk waswbr emy ebr ath lbrzly mlka wamr
Barzillai said to the king, “How many are the days of the years of my life, that I should go up with the king to Jerusalem?
35
ואמר ברזלי למלכא כמה יומי שני חיי ארי אסק עם מלכא לירושלם:
lyrwshlm mlka em asq ary khyy shny ywmy kmh lmlka brzly wamr
I am eighty years old, today. Can I discern between good and bad? Can your servant taste what I eat or what I drink? Can I hear the voice of singing men and singing women any more? Why then should your servant be a burden to my lord the king?
36
בר תמנן שנין אנא יומא דין האידע בין טב לביש אם יטעם עבדך ית מה דאיכול וית מה דאשתי אם אשמע עוד בקל כנרין ותושבחן ולמה יהי עבדך עוד למטול על רבוני מלכא:
mlka rbwny el lmTwl ewd ebdk yhy wlmh wthwshbkhn knryn bql ewd ashme am dashthy mh wyth daykwl mh yth ebdk yTem am lbysh Tb byn hayde dyn ywma ana shnyn thmnn br
Your servant will just go over the Jordan with the king. Why should the king repay me with such a reward?
37
כזעיר יעבר עבדך ית ירדנא עם מלכא ולמה ישלמנני מלכא תשלומא הדא:
hda thshlwma mlka yshlmnny wlmh mlka em yrdna yth ebdk yebr kzeyr
Please let your servant turn back again, that I may die in my own city, by the grave of my father and my mother. But behold, your servant Chimham; let him go over with my lord the king; and do to him what shall seem good to you.”
38
יתיב כען עבדך ואמות בקרתי ואתקבר בקברא דאבא ודאמא והא עבדך כמהם יעבר עם רבוני מלכא ועביד ליה ית דתקין בעינך:
beynk dthqyn yth lyh webyd mlka rbwny em yebr kmhm ebdk wha wdama daba bqbra wathqbr bqrthy wamwth ebdk ken ythyb
The king answered, “Chimham shall go over with me, and I will do to him that which shall seem good to you. Whatever you request of me, that I will do for you.”
39
ואמר מלכא עמי יעבר כמהם ואנא אעביד ליה ית דתקין בעינך וכל דתרמי עלי אעביד לך:
lk aebyd ely dthrmy wkl beynk dthqyn yth lyh aebyd wana kmhm yebr emy mlka wamr
All the people went over the Jordan, and the king went over. Then the king kissed Barzillai and blessed him; and he returned to his own place.
40
ועבר כל עמא ית ירדנא ומלכא עבר ונשק מלכא לברזלי וברכיה ותב לאתריה:
lathryh wthb wbrkyh lbrzly mlka wnshq ebr wmlka yrdna yth ema kl webr
So the king went over to Gilgal, and Chimham went over with him. All the people of Judah brought the king over, and also half the people of Israel.
41
ועבר מלכא לגלגלא וכמהן עבר עימיה וכל עמא דבית יהודה אעברו ית מלכא ואף פלגות עמא דישראל:
dyshral ema plgwth wap mlka yth aebrw yhwdh dbyth ema wkl eymyh ebr wkmhn lglgla mlka webr
Behold, all the men of Israel came to the king, and said to the king, “Why have our brothers the men of Judah stolen you away, and brought the king and his household, over the Jordan, and all David’s men with him?”
42
והא כל אנש ישראל אתן לות מלכא ואמרו למלכא מא דין כסיוך מננא אחנא אנש יהודה ואעברו ית מלכא וית אנש ביתיה ית ירדנא וכל גברי דוד עמיה:
emyh dwd gbry wkl yrdna yth bythyh ansh wyth mlka yth waebrw yhwdh ansh akhna mnna ksywk dyn ma lmlka wamrw mlka lwth athn yshral ansh kl wha
All the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, “Because the king is a close relative to us. Why then are you angry about this matter? Have we eaten at all at the king’s cost? Or has he given us any gift?”
43
ואתיב כל אנש יהודה על אנש ישראל ארי קריב לי מלכא מדילך ולמה דנן תקוף לך על פתגמא הדין המיכל אכילנא מנכסי מלכא אם מתנא מני לנא:
lna mny mthna am mlka mnksy akylna hmykl hdyn pthgma el lk thqwp dnn wlmh mdylk mlka ly qryb ary yshral ansh el yhwdh ansh kl wathyb
The men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, “We have ten parts in the king, and we have also more claim to David than you. Why then did you despise us, that our advice should not be first had in bringing back our king?” The words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.

ואתיב אנש ישראל ית אנש יהודה ואמר עסרא חולקין אית לי במלכא ואף בדוד אנא רעינא מנך ומא דין אשטתני ולא הוה פתגמי קדמותא לי לאתבא ית מלכי ותקיף פתגם אנש יהודה מפתגם אנש ישראל:
